12 advertising upstarts to watch in 2022 as the shift to digital threatens established agencies

Robert G. Vallee Jr. founded Project Worldwide in 2010 when he was CEO of event marketing agency George P. Johnson, the largest of its 13 properties. Like a traditional holding company, Project acquires controlling stakes in companies. It seeks specialized agencies like entertainment-focused G7, retail firm Shoptology, and esports company OS Studios. Project is an ESOP business, with 10% of employees' earnings coming in the form of stock awards. Vallee Jr. said this structure encourages retention and collaboration among agencies that offer different services to shared clients like PepsiCo.

Advertising company Project Worldwide just acquired a specialty agency to help clients capitalize on the red-hot gaming business

Project Worldwide, a New York-based ad holding company, acquired gaming and esports-focused agency OS Studios as online gaming has accelerated in the pandemic. New York-based OS Studios employs 14 people and produces virtual and in-person events and content for companies like Twitch, EA Sports, and AB InBev. Project Worldwide was founded in 2010 and now owns 13 agencies including PR firm Praytell, digital agency Wondersauce, and ad firm Partners & Napier. Its largest property is events agency George P. Johnson, best known for organizing Salesforce's massive annual Dreamforce event.

Behind Clairol's Nostalgic Partnership with Amazon Prime's 'Daisy Jones & The Six'

Clairol, a brand with roots in the 1950s, is pairing with a fictional band from the 1970s in a new Amazon Prime series, which is part of its strategy to revive the brand. Clairol is the latest brand to lean into the power of nostalgia to drive sales. The Wella Co. brand is launching a paid and organic digital and social campaign linked with “Daisy Jones & The Six.” It’s a partly documentary-style treatment that follows the lives and loves and explosive breakup of the fictional band. Communications agency Praytell and Publicis Groupe media shop Zenith are handling the effort.

Sonos Consolidates Global PR Business With Praytell

Smart speaker maker Sonos has consolidated its global PR business with Praytell, ending its nearly five-year relationship with Edelman, PRovoke Media has learned. Formally named Sonos’ global and North America PR agency of record, Praytell will handle all brand, product and corporate communications for the home sound systems company. Tech practice head Jennifer Velez will lead the work.
